How Healthspan Highways Came To Be
Welcome!
My name is Bill Lusk and I am the creator and owner of Healthspan Highways.
I have been helping seniors and their families find safe living options for over 10 years. The vast majority of my clients 1st preference was to stay "home" and age in place. Other than recommending in-home care providers, I had very little to offer them to do that in a safe and fulfilling manner.
Our Story
Recent technological developments, an aging population and an inadequate healthcare system lead the entire senior care industry to search for better ways to serve their clientele. The focus shifted to preventive products and services that increase human healthspan rather than prolong human lifespan. I had my answer. The 1st part is to introduce the new technology. The 2nd part is to promote the mindset.

What is “Healthspan”?
Let us begin with

“Healthspan refers to the period of a person's life when they are healthy and free from chronic diseases and disabilities associated with aging. It is essentially the number of years lived in good health, as opposed to just the total number of years lived (lifespan).
Focusing on healthspan means prioritizing quality of life and maximizing the time spent in good health, rather than solely pursuing extended lifespan.”

The practical definition:
Healthspan is the number of years in one’s lifetime when they are in reasonably good health, maintaining the ability to be fully functional and live independently.
Assistance is not required while performing the activities and instruments of daily living. Let us define Healthspan as “the planned delaying of the natural decline during the chronological aging process.”
Why should we care
about our Healthspan?
Human lifespan, the period from birth to death, has increased dramatically. Today’s healthcare advancements are prolonging our mortality. Approximately one quarter of us will live past age 90. Welcome news of course. Has there been a corresponding increase in healthspans?
Opinions differ, but most agree there is some catching up to do. As our longevity increases so do the odds of eventually needing assisted living of some sort.
Besides the financial implications, the quality in life in later years is a growing concern for society. “Aging in Place” is the common term for retaining one’s independence. Increasing your healthspan flips the script, enabling us to “Stay Healthy in Place”
Introduction
A little bit about Bill...
Born and raised in the Cleveland area. OSU Grad. You can take the boy out of Ohio, but you can't take Ohio out of the boy. No longer a boy, but always a BUCKEYE!
My wife Brenda and I now reside in Glendale, AZ. We spent decades in "corporate America" working hard to ensure the VP received a bonus.
Our 2nd careers are much different. We wanted a more fulfilling occupation, sense of community and the opportunity to "give back".
Our parents are deceased. We watched them as they grew old, declined in health and faced the inevitable. We wondered "so this is what awaits us someday..."
We chose senior living to lend guidance to families navigating the aging process. I am a CSA (Certified Senior Advisor) and a CPRS (Certified Placement and Referral Specialist). Over10 years now.
Recently, I had a couple health concerns They were the same issues my father faced. There it
was - the moment in everyone's life where the word "mortality" enters the picture.
How does one control their destiny?
That is how Healthspan Highways was born...
